I can read a book for actual pleasure? I can sleep in and not feel guilty because I’m supposed to be up studying/doing homework? I start the new job tomorrow?
This is just a statement of what has happened to us today. Today, while I was at school, completing the investment in education I’d made starting in 2004, Bran and Boy went to our branch of Affinity Credit Union here in Saskatoon. We made a decision as a family to cash in Boy’s bonds, reinvest three of them and Boy would contribute one of the bonds toward family expenses as well as Boy related expenses such as braces, a new bed, clothes and shoes. So, because the bonds were still in the name of his Oma and despite him being named as as co-owner, they found it necessary to send them to Calgary where their only bond centre is. The bonds will be reissued under Boy’s name and be returned here. This process is going to take a couple of weeks. Is it inconvenient? You bet. However, it is possible that it would have happened regardless of whatever bank we went to. We don’t know that. Because of this delay, Bran requested a short term loan to cover current expenses that include rent, utilities and groceries that would be repaid when the bonds were cashed and reinvested for him. They knew that this was going to be the process and therefore knew that they would get the money back in less than a month. However, because Bran and I have no credit record (we haven’t started paying back student loans and have no credit cards, etc.) and that Boy cannot provide collateral (because he’s a minor) they turned us down. Now I can understand this business decision. However, the fact that I have banked with this particular branch for over 23 years and already repaid a student loan makes no difference. The last I heard credit unions were supposed to value their more close community and customer relationships, at least that’s what they advertise…it’s all about being local. During that time I have paid exorbitant service fees because of my commitment to my community and to the old tenets that credit unions were founded upon – investment in people. So when the bonds come back with Boy’s name on them, we are going to take them and walk out of the credit union and go across the street to RBC (a branch that was extremely helpful and bent over backwards when Bran’s mother died to make the entire painful process of closing accounts, cancelling credit cards, etc so much easier than it could’ve been) to open up chequing accounts for Bran and I, for Boy as well as investment accounts for Boy with the other three of the savings bonds. Today Affinity Credit Union managed to create an enormous amount of ill will with the Dykewife family. We will maintain the account at the credit union only so long as the cheques to our landlord are used (we gave them a year’s worth of post dated cheques) which will be done in August then we shall close all accounts with Affinity Credit Union. They managed, in one fell swoop, to offend me, Bran and Boy severing a long term business relationship that could have been quite beneficial to them in the future. I figure that if they’re not willing to invest in us, why should I be willing to invest in them? I don’t care if they consider it sound business practise, last I heard, creating ill will wasn’t a part of that.
As of today I am officially done my Baccalaureate of Arts Honours. Dykewife, B.A. Hon. Has a certain ring, right? I didn’t sacrifice peaches and ice. I’m so tired that had I had any alcohol I would’ve not been able to make it home and done a face plant on the table. I got 80% on my essay and according to the prof who has already marked many of the papers, I did well. So that means I passed and that’s all that is important to me right now. Now…after Scooby Doo and then bed. Sorry, Mebdh. I’m not able to make it. Bran might be there though. Ta-Ra
Tomorrow is the final final exam. I still haven’t studied for it. I’m so tired and so tired of school. After the exam I shall be going to Louis’s, having lunch and a few (or a few more) peach belinis because they’re nectar of the Goddess and she demands sweet, peachy drinks be sacrificed. After that I go home and then tomorrow evening, I hope to go to an art show that Mebdh (pronounced Maive – gotta love those Irish names that sound nothing like they’re spelt) is having. Bran has diabetes. That’s what the doctor wanted to talk to him about when the blood tests came back last week. He doesn’t have to do the insulin thing. With diet, exercise and medications for other related issues it should resolve itself. This means that the bikes will come out and we have to find a way of tying them up outside so that they don’t get stolen but are handy enough for me to access my bike to ride to and from work. Hey, did you see?? I GOT THE JOB!!!! That’s about it. I’m going to go to bed and get some rest then get up about 4 and review stuff with the exam questions as reference. Hopefully I won’t fuck up too badly and will pass the class. All I want to do is pass. That’s all I need. Speaking of classes, I just checked to see if my final marks for Research Design and Endangered Languages were in. They were. Research Design – 82% I just need to pass. That’s all. Then I can sleep the sleep of the non-obligated. I’ll have one day’s “holiday” and then I start work. Yippee!
I got this one from Uncle Zoloft
According to an English to Polish online translator, Powitanie is hello. I have no idea if that’s right, but thanks to someone who linked to one of my archive entries that was mostly about the male penis (as opposed to the female penis) that featured the song from The Meaning of Life and the Gay Men Play Safe listing of different names that men have come up with to call their “member”, I have received an enormous number of hits from Poland. I don’t know quite what they were looking for or what the forum entries are about (since I neither read nor speak Polish). I got hits from: That’s a lot of Poles who needed to read about penises. Amazing. Of course, they might never see this front page, but I figured it can’t hurt to be welcoming and say hello.
Yeah, I nearly peed myself laughing at this result.
Yes, I did. I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!! I start next Thursday at 8 am. Then on Friday I’ll work from 12-8. On Saturday and Sunday I’ll work my regular shift of 4-midnight. I get 4 days off then on Friday I work at 8 am again so that the Director can know that I’m doing things the way they should be done. I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you to everyone who thought good thoughts, who prayed, who wished me well and crossed their sundry bits and body parts! That heartened me to no end. I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok. Back to coding some stuff that isn’t working for me on Blogger and is pissing me off. Please ignore the previous entry. That’s the coding that is pissing me off and I’m working on getting it to work. I’ll let you know when that works out. Ok, the previous post is readable, but for the life of me I can’t figure out why my colour coding isn’t working. Blogger keeps changing my coding, driving me nuts and telling me it can’t accept the html that I’ve put in. Blarg!

As much as I hate using Wikipedia, some of the people didn’t have an official biographical page or even an obituary. So we shall have to suffer the vaguarities of “that” site (I spelled it first as stie – suits it better I think) 1This is the closest to biographical reference I could find. There are a lot of her writings on the net though.
One Work Meme Here’s a meme I swiped from Danulai (except for from whom the meme is stolen from)! (right down the the announcement of swiping the meme One word answers… 1.Where is your mobile phone? table And now for something completely different… I changed my television package yesterday. Instead of having “Book TV” for the Midsommer Murders program on Mondays I’ve opted to have the package that has A&E in it. For some reason we also have another package that has MenTV (for the record, it’s North America’s first channel for men, Spike TV didn’t come until over a year later) and Court TV. I can’t figure out why we have that. We’d cancelled all of them except one for Boy and I. Anyway, Boy’s package has Turner Classic Movies and tonight I recorded Murder on the Orient Express. It was the one that was made in the 1970s with Albert Finney, John Guilgud, Dame Wendy Hiller, Sean Connery, Jacqueline Bisset, Michael York among others. Now we’re watching A Lady Vanishes made in 1938. I rather like having my old standards back, A&E and TLC. I’m looking forward to tomorrow evening when I record any First 48s that I’ve missed as well as the new program that I can’t remember what the name is but has a 360 in the title. I made a delicious curry this evening. We didn’t eat until nearly 8 though. That’s one of the problems of waking up late in the afternoon. Supper is always late. At least it was worth waiting for. That’s about it. Ta-Ra |
